Jennifer and Joey were married Saturday at Fountain City Presbyterian with a reception at Cherokee Country Club. Although Cherokee only allows weddings for members, their children, and their grandchildren, it is a wonderful venue for those lucky enough to use it.

The day started with some drama as Jennifer's grandmother was involved in a car collision on the way to the wedding, but she wasn't hurt and everything turned out OK. As always, Leah at Whimsical Gatherings outdid herself with the flowers at the church and the reception, and Daisy Cakes provided a tasty cake to top off a delicious dinner.

The church did require that I shoot the ceremony from the back of the church, but the light and colors were beautiful.

The bridesmaid dresses, bouquets, and arrangements in the church and reception were vibrant, deep shades of pink. Even Jennifer's fingernails coordinated.

Cherokee has very attractive facilities with a large ballroom - perfect for very large weddings. There are also lots of nice spots for photos and a beautiful view from the back patio.

The reception's live band Deas Guyz did an AMAZING job. They were possibly the best live music I've heard at a wedding and kept everyone happy and dancing until the very end of the night.

Weddings are full of emotions as you can see in these two photos taken only minutes apart after the best man's speech and Jennifer's sister Emily's (the MOH) speech .

I want to show a few shots of Melanie and Patrick's album before I mail it to them. This is an 8x10" horizontal digital book.

In order to avoid messy layouts with a jumble of really small photos, I do limit the number of pictures included. It's always better to add more pages to the album than to try to fit too many photos on a page. Melanie did a great job narrowing down her photo list, and I think the resulting book is beautiful.

Cindy and Doug were married at their home Saturday in a wedding that was both elegant and intimate. The affair was a black-tie event with great food, tasteful decorations, fragrant flowers, and a resplendent bride wearing Vera Wang, but the overall feel was very relaxed and heart-warming. The couple's three daughters and three sons made up the wedding party and were a big part of the happy day, participating in a family prayer and the lighting of a unity candle during the ceremony.

The living room furniture had been moved out to make room for a dance floor and dining tables so I just suggested moving the couch a little further... into the yard.  I love my job. Just check out this beautiful family!

I had about half an hour for photos of the bride and groom before the ceremony.

Dara's Garden, Knoxville, TN

Tessa and Bruce had a fun wedding at Dara's Garden last weekend. Dara's has beautiful grounds with several different locations for an outdoor ceremony and reception. We also took advantage of the property's barn for a few photos of the couple. I've been blessed to work with some wonderful couples this year, and these two were no exception. They chose to meet and get all of the formals out of the way before the ceremony, and I had time to do photographs of the two of them together both before and after the ceremony. Of course I could never have enough time with great models at a beautiful venue, but Tessa did a really good job at staying on schedule so that we would fit in all of the photographs. It is so much easier to get great shots when you aren't rushed.

As always at Dara's, Rothchild Catering kept everyone happily fed. Ogle Entertainment provided the DJ, and Leah at Whimsical Gatherings did an amazing job with the flowers. I'm thrilled to see so many brides using peonies this year. I love, LOVE those flowers, and they look so great with English or garden roses. The maids wore brown dresses with blue sashes, and the men wore brown vests with their tuxes. Like many brides, Tessa changed into more comfortable shoes (flip-flops) for the reception, and she also changed into a little white dress later in the evening so that she could relax and dance more easily.

Summitt/Jones Wedding June 21

There were supposed to be two ring bearers, but I knew that the chances of getting two down the aisle were very slim when we couldn't convince one of them to even be in the group photograph.

We did see one come down the aisle... running. He hung out for a minute before turning around and running back the way he came.

I love brides who aren't afraid of getting a little dirty even on the wedding day.

I often shoot weddings in other cities or for couples that are coming here from other places, and we don't always have an opportunity to meet before the wedding day. Candice and Ryan are one of those couples that booked me without meeting so it was fun to finally put faces with the names and spend a few hours getting to know them during their engagement session last week. They're a great couple, and now I'm really looking forward to their October wedding at Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville.

Earlier in the session, I took a photograph of a brick wall with some peeling paint, and I used it as an overlay this last photo to add even more texture.
