Molly wanted to do her bridal photos at The Sterchi Mansion in north Knoxville because she has fond memories of visiting friends there as a child. Coincidentally, my earliest memories in life are from the same property so I was super excited about the prospect of going back. I didn't know that the owners are now hosting weddings and events at their home. I'm sure that they will be very busy once the word gets out, and I'm looking forward to photographing more events there in the future.

Because we did Molly's bridal photos before the wedding, we stuck to a more traditional style in order to keep her dress clean. The mansion's interior and grounds are the perfect backdrop for beautiful, classic portraits, and I'm excited to finally be able to share some of my favorites now that the wedding is over. One of my greatest joys in being a wedding photographer comes from being able to produce elegant, timeless photographs of a beautiful bride.

My baby boy turned one yesterday! I baked him a giant, chocolate cupcake to celebrate, but he was more interested in the candle.

Hayden is One

Once we blew the candle out, he lost interest and actually seemed to think that the cake itself was really gross. He was very unhappy sitting next to it and even kicked it a few times to move it away.

Hayden is One

Of course we acted like fools trying to get one good, happy photo, but this is the best smile we could coax out of him.

He did eventually try a bite and hated it so there weren't any cake eating photos. He got his feet covered in icing though and ended up getting his second bath for the day. Baths are his favorite thing to do so that was definitely his favorite present.

Stacy and Seth were two of my clients (back when I was first starting my business) that became friends. Unfortunately, they don't live very close now. We mostly just have to keep in touch online so I was very excited when they came to Knoxville in May for a session with their son Nathan.

He was a little shy at first (or maybe just tired from the drive), but Stacy and Seth did an excellent job of just playing with him and not paying attention to the camera. It didn't take long for him to warm up, and then he was very playful and expressive. He's one of those boys that wants to be constantly moving so there's really no chance of doing any sort of posed photographs. To him, it was just a really fun trip to the park with his parents, and he obviously enjoyed himself. I enjoyed just being there to photograph the three of them spending time together.

Nathan had just turned two, and Stacy even baked a little cake for some photos to document the occasion. At first he was a little confused because we wanted him to sit on the table, but kids always love candles and icing. I got SO many great photos that day, and it was nearly impossible to choose just a few to share.

The pre-crawling stage is such a great time for baby photography because the kids are expressive and active but can't quite run away from the camera yet. Photographing babies at any age can be a challenge, but it is SO worth the effort. It is truly amazing how quickly they grow and change. Now that I'm a mother, I am even more aware of just how important it is to document these early moments for yourself and your child.

Baby J is such a sweet little guy! The photo session wore him out, but he was really very cooperative and seems older than just 7 months. I'm excited to share some of my favorite photographs from our session. Isn't he just adorable?

It's exciting and scary to go from having a lap baby to a wiggly, little crawler who can take off in a split second. Luckily, J's mom and dad were there to lend a hand with the baby wrangling.
